Highland Park Bank Robbery Puts Schools On 'Soft' Lockdown

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Authorities have released photos of a suspected bank robber, who robbed a Chase Bank branch in Highland Park on Thursday.

The robbery briefly put Highland Park High School, a junior high school, an elementary school an on a "soft lockdown," police said.

Students were kept inside as a precaution.

"It was right in the center of town,'' said Highland Park Police Cmdr. George Pfutzenreuter.

The suspect, who was wearing a bright yellow backpack and dark baseball hat, entered the Chase branch at 513 Central Ave. around 9:20 a.m., and passed a note to the teller, announcing the robbery, according to FBI Special Agent Ross Rice.

No weapon was displayed and no injuries were reported. Chicago FBI and Highland Park Police are investigating.

The suspect is described as a white man about 25, slender and tall, with glasses. He was wearing a blue, long-sleeve button-down shirt, blue jeans, brown shoes and a yellow and black backpack on his back.
