High Waves On Lake Michigan Forecast For Tuesday
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Large waves on Lake Michigan on Tuesday afternoon could make boating, swimming and even using the bike path in certain locations hazardous.
CBS 2's Megan Glaros reports that conditions could create waves of 10 feet or more on the shoreline. Some waves could even reach 15 feet.
The waves will be created by strong winds blowing down the full length of the lake and cooler air moving over the warmer lake waters, the National Weather Service said.
The waves will hit all along Chicago and into Northwest Indiana.
"Do not venture out onto break walls or too close to the breaking waves as occasional rogue
waves could reach up to around 15 feet and potentially sweep you out into the lake," the National Weather Service said.
The large waves will make venturing into the lake very dangerous even for experienced swimmers.
The high waves are expected from Tuesday afternoon and into Wednesday.
