High-Alcohol Beverage Under Fire
CHICAGO (CBS) -- First it was Four Loko. Now another alcoholic drink, Blast, is on the defensive.
Blast is made by the Pabst Brewing Co. based in southwest suburban Woodridge.
Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is asking the company to reduce the alcohol in the beverage.
It's 12 percent by volume. Madigan says one container is a "binge in a can," equal to drinking a six-pack of typical American beer.
Seventeen officials from other cities, states and territories are also asking the company to tone down the booze.
Pabst says it is not encouraging reckless drinking.
"The alcohol content of Blast is clearly marked on its packaging," the beverage maker said in a statement. "We are encouraging consumers to consider mixing Blast with other beverages or enjoy it over ice."
