Hester Unlikely To Return To Chicago
(CBS) All indications are that return extraordinaire Devin Hester won't be returning to the Bears.
NFL.com insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that the Bears haven't made an attempt to re-sign him and that he's headed to the free-agent market. Players can begin negotiating Saturday, then begin signing next Tuesday.
Rapoport's tweet echoes a Chicago Sun-Times column posted late Tuesday that was titled, "Hester's departure from Bears seems inevitable."
"The Bears certainly don't want to match Hester's $2.1 million salary from last season, not for a 31-year-old who contributes neither on offense nor defense," the Sun-Times' Adam Jahns writes.
Hester is tied for first in NFL history with Deion Sanders for special teams return touchdowns with 19.
