Heat Turned Up On Maine West High Over Sexual Hazing Allegations
DES PLAINES, Ill. (CBS) -- The cases of alleged abuse are growing at Maine West High School.
There are new allegations against a soccer coach accused of watching while players sexually assaulted team members.
CBS 2's Pamela Jones reports.
Maine West soccer coach Michael Divincenzo's alleged action and lack of action have him tangled in scandal. He's accused of witnessing sexual hazing involving team members.
One mother is angry at Divincenzo and has joined several families filing lawsuits against Maine Township High School District 207 because of a series of alleged attacks coaches knew about dating back to 2007.
Her son was a baseball player and allegedly assaulted in 2008.
"Multiple children could have been saved from the humility, indignity and emotional trauma and assault," attorney Tony Romanucci says.
Now, the Sun-Times is reporting police reports reveal new claims against the coach, including that he allegedly threatened to have varsity players assault freshmen if they didn't start quote "communicating."
The district, in a statement, says it is reviewing the 2008 hazing complaint. And it's part of the investigation about assault allegations this year.
The statement also says it reported the 2012 cases immediately to the state's child welfare agency and Des Plaines police.
