Heat Championship Parade Set For Monday Morning
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Now that the Miami Heat are the 2012 NBA World Champions, all that's left is the championship parade.
Officials with the City of Miami, Miami-Dade County and the Miami Heat met Friday to discuss parade plans and settled on Monday morning.
The overall celebration will start at 9 a.m. and then the parade will get rolling at 11 .m. and last until 12:30 p.m.
The parade route will be as follows: everything starts at the corner of SW 8th Street & 2nd Avenue, the parade moves east on 8th Street, then north on Brickell Avenue across the bridge and north on Biscayne Boulevard into the AmericanAirlines Arena via NE 8th Street.
However, when the Miami Heat won their first NBA title in 2006, the official Parade of Champions started at the AAA and ran down Biscayne Boulevard. It eventually made a U-turn and headed back to the AAA for a rally and celebration.
That's not the case this year.
"We do want the crowd to understand, we're not doing a loop that's gone," said Kim Stone, general manager of the American Airlines Arena. "We learned that it is exceptionally hot in June."
At 12:30 p.m., the team will go inside the AmericanAirlines Arena for another celebration that will be free and exclusive to season ticket holders.
The season-ticket holder event will not be broadcast on the screen outside the AAA.
