Hawks Notes: Hossa Ready, Boynton Day-to-Day
Just a few notes from the Hawks' morning sessions as they prepared to face Detroit Friday night in their second preseason game. Marian Hossa told reporters that both his shoulder and knee are ready to go. Hossa entered last season recovering from shoulder surgery and, while the knee is ready for hockey, Hossa said playing soccer still irritated it some. Thankfully, the Hawks pay him to score on the ice, not the pitch. Hossa's absence in the first to games is a coaching decision, he said, and it's one he's fine with.
Joel Quenneville told the media that the veterans who haven't played in either game (most notably Patrick Kane and Hossa) would likely see plenty of ice-time when the team plays at home Saturday. Coach Q also told the press that defenceman Nick Boynton missed the skate Friday morning with an upper body injury. Quenneville wouldn't say whether the injury is a result of Boynton's fight with Tampa's Blair Jones Wednesday night but Boynton is day-to-day.
Finally, according to Canada's TSN, Boynton has been suspended one game for taunting after the fight with Jones. Boynton made a throat-slashing gesture--the kind that's been banned from both the NHL and NFL for some time. Quenneville has not heard anything official from the NHL regarding a suspension but he did say, "that [it] could happen."
