Hawks Fan Suffers Heart Attack Hours After Game 3 Loss
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The quest for the Stanley Cup has some Blackhawks fans joking, "I think I'm going to have a heart attack." But for one Oswego fan, that actually happened.
A stressed out Dave Thomas was watching Game 3 Monday night when he went to bed, frustrated by the team's loss. He says a few hours later he woke up with severe chest pains and a racing heart.
He's still in the hospital. Doctors believe he may have had a minor heart attack. But Thomas isn't letting that stop him from doing what he loves. He watched Game 4 from his hospital bed.
Thomas says his heart monitor was going crazy and his heart was racing but he watched to the sudden death, overtime end. Nurses told him lying in his hospital bed was the best place for him to watch the game, considering what he'd been through.
Edward Hospital cardiologist Alan Brown says sports' fan stress can be a real concern, especially if that fan has a pre-existing condition like Thomas does. His advice? If stress symptoms surface, turn off the TV. Walk away.
Thomas says he doesn't think he can do that. In fact, he hopes to be out of the hospital and at the United Center for Game 5 Saturday...that is, if he can get tickets.
