McKnight: Hawks Drop Third Straight
By Connor McKnight--
The Avalanche picked up a favorable call 2:40 into the third period of Wednesday night's game and used it to vault to a 4-3 win over the Blackhawks. The call--a double minor against Hawks defenceman Jordan Hendry--came under fire from Hawks coach Joel Quenneville.
"I just looked at the replay. I totally disagree with the call," Quenneville said. "[He] hit his glove... from outside I don't even know how you could even see something like that. You watch the replay, he doesn't even see the guy. I don't know how he could have made that call. You have to be right when you make that call."
More frustration added to a situation already full of it.
It's also three straight losses where late, third-period collapses have been the culprit. Even worse, the Hawks haven't played all that poorly.
"You could say there's one bad game out of three," Jonathan Toews said. "But still, at the end of the day we only have one point in the last three games. I mean, what good is that? Again, you can talk all day about doing ... some good things out there but it just doesn't cut it when you don't get the results that you want."
Bryan Bickell continued on his pace for a 20-goal season with a nice move and a wrister by Craig Anderson for the Hawks first goal of the night. Toews (14) brought the Hawks to within one midway through the third while Troy Brouwer scored his ninth with just a second left on the clock.
To add injury to insult, or at least injury to a tough losing streak, Viktor Stalberg left the game after getting slammed into the boards by Ryan O'Byrne late in the second. It appeared as though O'Byrne's elbow caught Stalberg in the head and jammed him into the boards. Stalberg did not return to the game and his injury is being called an upper body issue.
