Harvin Set For Seahawks Practices This Week

 By Matthew Asher

It’s already been a banner year for the Seattle Seahawks: they finished atop the NFC, tying a franchise-best 13-3 record and have clinched home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. But it looks like they’re about to get even more good news because wide receiver/kick returner Percy Harvin may be able to play in the divisional round game on January 11.

Although nothing has been guaranteed yet, Head Coach Pete Carroll announced that Harvin will return and begin practicing with the team this week. It would certainly be a welcome change of pace to see Harvin with a chance to return to the lineup as he’s only been able to play in one game this season, thanks to a labrum hip tear he suffered during the offseason. Harvin has been on the physically unable to perform list for the majority of the season. He was able to undergo successful hip surgery in late August but didn't make his debut until the November 11 game against his former team, the Minnesota Vikings.

Harvin didn’t exactly set the world on fire in his return game. Percy finished the game with one reception for 17 yards but did have a very impressive 58-yard kick return during the game. The following week, Harvin was suffering from inflammation in the surgically repaired hip and was yet again unable to play.

The good news for the ‘Hawks is that Harvin hasn’t thrown in the towel yet on this season as he still wants to play a part in Seattle’s playoff run to the Super Bowl. “This guy is a true competitor and would do anything to play,” Coach Carroll said the day after Seattle’s 27-9 victory over the St. Louis Rams. “He's been fighting for a months and months to position himself so he could get back here and to his credit he has not given up on it. He's at a place where he has a chance. "

Percy took the good news to his Twitter account where he simply said “12's see u in 2 weeks ... It's go time once again”
Again, nothing is guaranteed that Harvin will be able to return in two weeks, but fortunately for Seattle, after the Week 11 game against the Vikings, Harvin did not suffer any additional structural damage to his hip. "We'll see what happens,” Carroll said.

“It's come to the point where we can go to that and we'll keep our fingers crossed for him. He wants to contribute and be part of this team, and he's going to do everything he can to do that. "

With a little luck, Harvin will not only be able to suit up for Seattle’s next game, but also contribute more than just a handful of plays. In the meantime, here’s hoping he continues to rehab and that everything goes well in his practices before the divisional round game.
