Harvey Man Due In Court For Animal Cruelty Charges

HARVEY, Ill. (CBS) -- A 37-year-old Harvey man was scheduled to appear in bond court Friday, after police found one dead dog and seven other abused or neglected dogs while enforcing an eviction at his home in south suburban Harvey.

William Roberson, 37, has been charged with two felony counts of aggravated animal cruelty, eight misdemeanor counts of violation of owner's duties, and one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty.

WBBM Newsradio's Steve Miller reports Cook County Sheriff's deputies were enforcing a court-ordered eviction at Roberson's home in Harvey when they found a dead dog in the basement, and another emaciated dog that could not walk due to a leg injury.

Another emaciated dog was found in a crate outside the home.

In all, sheriff's deputies found seven pit bull-type dogs and a Chihuahua.

Five of the eight dogs were at the South Suburban Humane Society, which is providing veterinary treatment for the animals.
