Harris: Garza Will Not Start Sunday In Boston
By Adam Harris--
Fenway Park, Boston, MA (WSCR) Cubs starting pitcher Matt Garza has some elbow tightness and will not start in Sunday night's series wrapup in Boston.
So manager Mike Quade, who will start?
"The options [Sunday] are everybody.," Quade said before the game on Saturday. "I mean it could literally be everybody to where it could be a spring training type of game where [we throw] a couple here and a couple there. Russell pitched very well [Friday] night against a left handed lineup. He would probably be the prominent guy....but I would say, on Preakness day, that Russell is the prohibitive favorite right now."
Garza will not be looked at until Monday, but both he and Quade did not seem to worried about the injury. Garza said he has dealt with this before this year but this time it is different.
"I've had it before and it's gone away and so we kept going with it," Garza said. "We haven't played in warm weather. The best it's felt all year was down in Miami were it was hot...it felt great. I think it's just a weather issue."
Garza has missed few starts in his career due to injury and felt bad about having to miss tomorrow.
"If it was October and the postseason then I'm definitely gaming up and going," Garza said, "but we are saving it so that we can make it into an October and I have to game up and go with it. We are being cautious."
Despite Garza being scratched Quade expects him to make his next start.
