Harris: Enjoy The Ride Bears Fans, This Is Once In A Lifetime
By Adam Harris--
It just hit me. The Bears and the Packers are going to play each other on Sunday in their most meaningful match up since the NFL became an entity.
This game cannot and will not be hyped enough, as it is the most meaningful three hours in recent Chicago sports history. Now Bears fans know what the Red Sox or Yankee fans felt like in '99, '03 and '04 when they met up for the ALCS. It is a magical situation that any sports fan in the world should enjoy, including all Bears fans.
There is a mentality in this city to pick out what is wrong with our favorite team, no matter what the situation is. Looking toward the future is a habit in Chicago and by doing so, the present situations are often ignored.
I hope this doesn't happen this week. No matter what the breakdown, no matter how good Aaron Rodgers is, no matter how good the Packers' secondary and linebackers are, Bears fans cannot make those things as the main focus this week. This is a once in a lifetime game, so treat it as such.
The Bears and Packers are going to be center stage in the NFL on Sunday and the winner goes to the Super Bowl. It cannot be expressed enough, that the winner of possibly the best rivalry in sports, decides who will play in the biggest championship game in sports.
Chicago is a city that can handle this hype, but all I ask Bears fans to do is enjoy the hell out of this week. Some already are enjoying this week so my message is not directed at you, but others are afraid of what is to come on Sunday. If that is your mentality, change it; otherwise Sunday will come and go, and win or lose you will not enjoy this incredible sports event which your favorite team is a part of.
While winning this game wouldn't be equal to winning a Super Bowl, it would certainly be a great chapter toward the ending of an amazing story. I know that I am enjoying every moment of this week solely as a NFL fan, so I can only imagine what a Bears fan is going through.
So, listen to The Score, read your favorite sports writers, and talk with your family and friends as much as possible all week without feeling bad about it at all. Then come Sunday, make sure you are with special people to watch this prelude to the Super Bowl.
This game will be talked about, written about, broken down, and analyzed all week until the opening kick off at 2:00 PM, and it cannot be overkill. Just remember to breathe and enjoy it in the ride.
