UPDATED: Harris: Byrd Left Game After Hit In Face By Pitch

Fenway Park, Boston, MA (WSCR) -- Not even a Cubs' come from behind win late could take the team's focus on the status of Marlon Byrd who was hit in the face with a pitch in the 2nd inning tonight in Boston.
"A good win." Manager Mike Quade said. "Lot's of good stuff happened, but I cannot get Marlon off my mind. Hopefully people a lot smarter then me are making good decisions and taking care of him."
Byrd was hit just below the left eye by an Aceves pitch in the second inning and went flailing to the ground. He then jumped up and walked off under his own power.
It was tough for anyone at that point to concentrate on the game.
"I came up every inning," tonight's starting pitcher Carlos Zambrano said, "when I was pitching and I asked the trainer Mark O'Neal, 'how is Marlon?' and he said, 'he is at the hospital and tomorrow we will know.' I will keep him in my prayers."
It is reported that there was a giant gash under Byrd's eye that required stitches to stop the bleeding. The swelling was too big to diagnose the exact problem.
Byrd was sent to a Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary for many tests and observations, and is believed to be staying overnight. He never lost consciousness.
