Harbaugh Undergoes 'Minor Procedure' For Irregular Heartbeat
By Adam Hoge-
HALAS HALL (CBS) San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh underwent "a minor procedure" Thursday at Stanford Hospital for an irregular heartbeat.
The team announced the procedure in a statement, adding that they expect Harbaugh to return to the team facilities Friday.
"Coach Harbaugh is not at the facility today under doctor's orders," the statement said. "He is having a minor procedure done at Stanford Hospital today for an irregular heartbeat. We anticipate that he will be back at the facility tomorrow, but do not have any further information to share at this time. Assistant head coach and special teams coordinator Brad Seely will be overseeing today's practice and meetings. When more information regarding coach Harbaugh is available we will pass that along."
In a conference call with Chicago reporters Thursday, 49ers defensive end Justin Smith downplayed the severity of the situation.
"We just heard about it actually a couple minutes ago, ourselves," Smith said. "Our prayers are with him and they said it's no big deal, just a little minor procedure and everything should be fine. He should be back to work tomorrow."
The Bears travel to San Francisco to play the 49ers Monday night.
