Hammond Man Shot And Killed At House Party
HAMMOND, Ind. (STMW) -- A Hammond man was shot to death early Sunday morning at a house party a little more than a mile from his home.
Jeffrey Morgan, 21, suffered multiple gunshot wounds at a home in the 600 block of Sibley Street, according the Lake County Coroner's Office. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:27 a.m. Morgan resided in the 6400 block of Monroe Avenue.
Hammond Police Chief Brian Miller said another person — a family member of the homeowner in his 20s — was shot in the foot during the incident. When asked whether he wanted to press charges, he stated that he didn't have time for that.
Miller said nearly 50 people were inside the home at the time of the shooting, with several people in the living room at the time.
"We're hoping that the witnesses do have time to give us a call us and tell us what they saw because someone at the party obviously knew who the shooter was," Miller said.
Miller said a few witnesses are starting to talk and police believe some at the party knew the shooter.
Hammond Police Lt. Richard Hoyda said police there are no suspects in custody.
