Halvorson Hopes For IDOT Post
CRETE, Ill. (WBBM) -- Former U.S. Rep. Debbie Halvorson hopes that when Gov. Pat Quinn picks someone new to replace the outgoing Illinois Department of Transportation secretary in the next couple of months, he will pick her.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Bernie Tafoya reports, Halvorson says she would like the job because she can help bring home more federal money for projects such as high-speed rail and improvements for roads and bridges.

"This is a must," she said. "This is the number one part of the job, is to be able to have doors opened and phones answered; be able to go to Washington, D.C., and know exactly the process of getting those federal dollars," Halvorson said.
Halvorson says dignitaries such as U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood support her in her efforts to win the IDOT job.
After serving in the state Senate, the Democratic Halvorson won the 11th Congressional District seat in 2008, but lost this past November to Republican Adam Kinzinger.
