Hairdresser Steals From Elderly Client To Buy Sperm, Fertility Supplements
CHICAGO (CBS) -- An Elgin hairdresser has been charged with using an elderly woman's credit card number for fertility vitamins and donor sperm to get herself pregnant.
Jenifer Perik, 43, has been accused of stealing approximately $6,000 from a 93-year-old client by using her credit card number, and spending about half the money to make sperm purchases, and buy fertility supplements from a Virginia-based website. She allegedly spent the rest on cell phone services.
Perik was arraigned Monday on several counts of aggravated identity theft, unlawful use of a credit card, financial institution fraud and continuing financial crimes enterprise. When she appeared in court, prosecutors revealed she is about seven weeks pregnant.
She was arrested earlier this month, after the victim and the victim's daughter noticed the unauthorized charges on her credit card.
Perik was released on $75,000 bail. She faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
