Gurnee police seek suspect in attack on jogger

(GURNEE) Police are looking for man who attacked a woman jogging in Gurnee Sunday, sending her to the hospital with a concussion and other injuries.

The woman, 41, told police she was jogging about 12:15 p.m. on Almond Road in front of Woodland Middle School in the north suburb when a man jogging in the opposite direction grabbed her from behind after passing her on the sidewalk, according to a release from Gurnee police.

The man, who she claims she had never seen before, pushed her to the ground and demanded money, and wanted her to take him to her house, according to the release. When she said she had no money with her, the man got angry and pushed her head into the sidewalk, threatening to kill her if she called police, the release said.

The man, described as a white male in his late 20s, 6-foot-2 with a thin build, then ran away, according to the release. He was wearing shorts and no shirt, and had sandy blond hair and green eyes, the release said.

Lake Forest Hospital staff members later notified police after the woman drove herself there for treatment and told them what happened, according to the release. She was treated and released for a concussion, abrasions and a sprained ankle.

Anyone who may have seen the suspect or has information about the crime is asked to call Gurnee police at (847) 599-7000 or Lake County Crime Stoppers at (847) 662-2222.
