Gunman Robs Carpentersville Bank; 3rd Heist In 5 Weeks
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man who robbed a Fifth Third Bank branch at gunpoint Monday afternoon in northwest suburban Carpentersville is also suspected in two other bank robberies in the last five weeks.
He showed a handgun when he robbed the branch at 154 S. Western Ave. in Carpentersville about 4:40 p.m., according to the FBI. No one was wounded in the robbery.
The suspect is described as a 250-pound black man, thought to be in his 40s, standing about 6-foot-4 with a large build, the FBI said. He was wearing a black fisherman hat, a tan button-down shirt, brown pants and a black stocking on his face.
He is also suspected of robbing a First American Bank branch on July 29 in west suburban Geneva. In that robbery, he showed a handgun and was wearing an orange shirt with tan pants. He donned a nylon stocking over his head, along with a mask styled after the infamous Star Wars movie villain Darth Vader.
On July 5, the man is suspected of showing a gun while robbing a Fifth Third Bank branch in west suburban West Chicago. During that incident he was wearing a black flat-bill cap with a Miami Heat logo, a gray hooded sweatshirt, oversized jeans and gray slip-on shoes.
