Guillen Says He Wants To Stay, But Only If White Sox Want To Keep Him
CHICAGO (CBS) -- In an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times' Joe Cowley Monday, White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen once again says he wants to stay with the White Sox, "but only if they want to keep me here."
The comments came amid reports by the Sun-Times that the relationship between White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen and general manager Kenny Williams as "beyond repair," and that team chairman Jerry Reinsdorf has reached the point where he no longer wants them working together.
Guillen, of course, is under contract for 2012. But sources tell the Sun-Times the White Sox have been "getting a feel" for possible new managers, and talks are also being renewed about sending Guillen off to the Florida Marlins.
When asked by the Sun-Times about Reinsdorf wanting to separate him from Williams, Guillen said he didn't know. But he said it was "pretty good money for (Reinsdorf) just to let me go," and if "they think Ozzie f***ed this up, fine, let them think that."
He also told the newspaper that he doesn't think Sox can trade him to Florida without getting in trouble with Major League Baseball.
He told the Sun-Times he blames himself for the team's performance rather than deflecting the blame, because "I guess I'm the one with the balls around here."
Guillen tells the Sun-Times he is "trying to win games, period."
