Guillen: 'I Should Get Fired'
(CBS) Ozzie Guillen has said it before and he will say it again. He's not afraid to take the blame for the White Sox's struggles, which he did once again before the White Sox started their weekend series against the Detroit Tigers.
Asked if he felt the pressure about possibly being fired, Guillen said:
"Pressure about what, getting fired? I don't give a (bleep) if I get fired. I'm the only manager in baseball who (bleeping) doesn't care about getting fired," he said. "I don't at all. If I get fired, I'll find another job, I don't know where or what I do, but no. I should get fired. Look at the team they give me, and we're not playing well. I will take that. I think people think I don't do a good job with this ballclub, I don't mind."
Guillen has no problem taking the blame, but he also says it's the players who determine whether a manager is good or not.
"Every time I go home I feel satisfied with what I'm supposed to do," he said. "I think I put the energy, passion, love for this ballclub. Hopefully this ballclub gets better to make me look better. That's all it is. If the ballclub play good, I'm going to be a great manager. If not? Managers always pay the price, always pay the price. Am I worried about paying the price? I never did. You can see my quote in 2004. My first day I got the job, what did I say? I say, 'I just got hired to get fired one day.'"
