Chicago's vibrant near northwest side community of Logan Square has long been a hot bed for emerging artists, but it's a great place for families, too. This community offers a host of great places to eat, play and enjoy as well as free outdoor events like concerts and yoga in the square.

If you are looking to take the kids to see some of the finest art in the city, then head down to the Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival. The event will be held from Friday, July 29-Sunday, July 31 and there is something for everyone. Kids of all ages are certain to enjoy this festival which also features some of the city's top musicians.

The Logan Square Farmers Market is filled with children, dogs, bikes and live music. It's become a weekly gathering space where friendships are forged and the vibe is more small town community than urban anonymity. Check out the freshest local produce and meet members of The Dill Pickle Co-Op, a community owned grocery store with one of the city's largest bulk grocery selections in the city. They're a full-service grocery store featuring fresh, local and organic food. You can also find out about getting CSA (community supported agriculture) boxes of farm fresh food delivered weekly.

Kid's menu might not be the first word that comes to mind when you hear Microbrewery, but Revolution Brewing has just that. This amazing eatery brews up 35 different types of beer a year, and still remembers the littles, with crayons and a menu just for them. Their gourmet offerings go far beyond pub grub, and make for a great family evening beyond the local pizza place.

Fun on Wheels

Logan Square is home to the city's first covered skate park, sequestered under the Kennedy expressway. This means shade from the summer sun and skating rain or shine. They recently garnered attention as the kick off site for the national Maloof Skateboarding Road Tour. The skateboard company not only sponsored big cash contests and giveaways, but also hosted a day of community service to clean up the park.

Kidical Mass

This spin off of the adult Critical Mass bike rides is for kids of all ages who are off of training wheels and accompanied by an adult. Rides average 4 miles along quiet, residential streets and take approximately an hour. Younger children are welcome in trail-a-bikes or seats. Costumes encouraged.
