Groupon Puts Gun-Related Deals On Hold
CHICAGO (CBS) –Groupon has halted all of its current gun-related deals and promotions, at least temporarily, the Chicago-based company said Monday.
"All scheduled and current gun-related deals featured on Groupon North America, including shooting ranges, conceal-and-carry and clay shooting, have been placed on hiatus while we review internal standards that shape the deal inventory we feature. The category is under review following recent consumer and merchant feedback," the company said in a statement provided to CBS 2.
The company offered no context to the decision. Gun rights and restrictions have been the subject of fierce debate following a string of mass murders. Last month, 20 school children and six adults were fatally shot at a Connecticut elementary school by a gunman who then shot himself.
One Texas gun shop owner is calling for a boycott after Groupon dumped a deal for a training course in the concealed-carry law, WBBM Newsradio's Kris Kridel reports. Groupon had deals for concealed-carry classes in other states, including Utah and Virginia.
