Group Collecting Signatures To Abolish Red Light, Speed Cameras
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A group trying to do away with red light and speed cameras says it's about halfway to its goal of collecting 100,000 signatures from voters, reports WBBM's Mike Krauser.
Mark Wallace is on a mission to abolish red light and speed cameras, which he sees as simply revenue generators for the city at the expense of its citizens.

"We want to put it to the voters for the voters to decide whether or not they believe that this is an ordinance that they want," said Wallace.
The WVON talk show host turned activist heads a group called Citizens To Abolish Red Light Cameras.
"It is not right for any municipality to sort of decide that just because they are the governing body that they can just decide to do whatever they want to do under the disguise of public safety," said Wallace.
Wallace says he has collected more than 40,000 signatures with the goal of 100,000, but he still needs an alderman to back the effort.
"It would not be wise for them to ignore 100,000 registered voters' signatures," said Wallace.
Wallace and some other supporters were staging a demonstration at 99th and Halsted where he says the red light camera generated $8.5 million last year.
