Green Projects Coming to O'Hare, Midway
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Plans are underway for two new green projects at O'Hare and Midway international airports.
As WBBM Newsradio's David Roe reports, city Aviation Commissioner Rosemarie Andolino says at O'Hare, the city will install solar energy collectors on up to 60 acres of land. The energy generated by the solar panels will be used to help power O'Hare.

The only solar facility at O'Hare right now is a firehouse, where solar power is used to heat water, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Andolino tells the Tribune that at Midway, a program to compost the food waste of the airport's 13 restaurants will be put in place.
The Midway program is similar to a program that is already in operation at O'Hare, saving hundreds of tons of waste from being dumped into landfills.
Back at O'Hare, another plan calls for a new service station that will sell alternative fuels for private and commercial vehicles, the Tribune reports.
The station will be located just outside airport property at Patton Drive and Higgins Road, just west of Mannheim Road, the Tribune reported.
As of now, Denver International Airport has the biggest solar power system, generating more than 8 megawatts of solar power on 45 acres of farmland, the newspaper reported.
