Grayslake School Board Member Got Threatening Call During Teachers' Strike
GRAYSLAKE, Ill. (CBS) -- A member of the Grayslake Community Consolidated School District 46 board has offered a $500 reward to find out who left her a threatening phone call when teachers were on strike last week.
WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports Shannon Smigielski said she received the expletive-laced message late Saturday night.
"The message said 'You are an [expletive] liar, I'd really hate to see what happens to your daughters at school when I have my kids [expletive] taunt them every day, because their mother is an [expletive] liar. Settle the [expletive] strike," she said.
Grayslake School Board Member Threatened
Smigielski said she believes whoever left the threatening message probably was bold enough to brag about what he did. She's counting on someone to call police with that person's name.
"We're counting on the fact that, if he was arrogant and stupid enough to call our home and threaten our kids, that he felt secure enough in … bragging about this to somebody else," she said.
She said the threatening phone call has so shaken her and her family, she's considering leaving her non-paid position on the school board.
"At this time, all I'm going to say is that my family and I have to consider everything that goes into being on the board, and how it's affecting our house," she said.
Anyone with information about the threatening call can call Grayslake police at (847) 223-2341. The report number for the case is: 13-2382.
The district and the teachers union settled the strike earlier this week, and classes resumed on Tuesday.
