Grant Park To Open Up New Skateboarding Area
The Chicago Park District will use $1 million in tax increment financing money for a permanent skateboard park in Grant Park.
"Grant Park is Chicago's front yard and it is the front yard of the world so it is for all of Chicago and it is an international park and it should attract a variety of people of different ages and generations," said Bob O'Neil, President of the Grant Park Conservancy and Advisory Council.
"Skateboarding is very popular and so our thought is lets work with younger people, they are out, they are exercising, they are outdoors, they are activating the park, they are keeping it safer," said O'Neil.
The skate park will be near 11th and Michigan and could be ready by fall of next year.
