Grace Says He Was 'Never' A Candidate To Replace Santo
Mark Grace spent 13 seasons playing for the Chicago Cubs before moving on to the Arizona Diamondbacks, and eventually to the Diamondbacks' broadcast booth.
And despite still being very popular in Chicago, Grace was never a candidate to replace the late Ron Santo in the Cubs' radio booth.
"That never happened," Grace told the Chicago Tribune before Tuesday's game when asked if he was contact by WGN.
"Obviously, with Ronnie passing away [last December] that was just a shame," Grace told the Tribune. "I love that man and I miss him every day. It kills me to look over to the booth. All due respect to Keith, but I miss seeing that toupee over there, I really do. But, no, I was never contacted. Before Ron passed away, I had already signed an extension with the Diamondbacks. So it wasn't going to happen."
Grace won a World Series in Arizona while playing for current Cubs' TV analyst Bob Brenly.
