Governors State University Cancels Classes Over Bomb Threat
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Classes have been canceled at Governors State University on Friday, after a bomb threat targeting the school's parking lots.
"The university received a low-level threat to our parking lots. The low-level bomb threat was made to Governors State University, specifically identifying the university's parking lots, and although the threat is considered low-level, we're treating it with the utmost caution for the care and safety of our community," University spokeswoman Keisha Dyson said.
No vehicles were being allowed to enter or exit the university's parking lots until the threat is cleared. A Will County Sheriff's police bomb squad was conducting a search of the parking lots.
"We remain vigilant. We are absolutely concerned about our community, and so we are doing the same thing that you're doing. We're watching the news, and staying aware of best practices for maintaining public safety," Dyson said.
Contrary to initial reports GSU was evacuated; students, faculty, and staff were being kept sheltered inside until police give the all-clear.
