Governor Names Mavericks Honorary Ohioans
CHICAGO (CBS) In addition to being awarded the Larry O'Brien Trophy as NBA Champions, the Dallas Mavericks were given another honor following their 105-95 Game 6 win over the Miami Heat, they've been named Honorary Ohioans.
Gov. John Kasich passed a resolution on Monday declaring that the Mavericks Ohioans for a day, as well as taking a few shots at Akron-native, and former Cavalier, LeBron James.
"Whereas, the Dallas Mavericks displayed the loyalty, integrity and teamwork essential to victory before the entire country, affirming that these admirable traits are as crucial as talent and athleticism," Gov. Kasich said in the resolution.
But there was an even more direct shot at James, who very publicly left the Cavaliers in the offseason to join the Heat, breaking the hearts of the fans, and to a large extent Ohioans in general.
"Whereas, NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Dirk Nowitzki chose to re-sign with the Dallas Mavericks in the summer of 2010, forgoing free agency and keeping his talents in Dallas," Gov. Kasich said. "Thus remaining loyal to the team, city and fans for whom he played his entire career."
James averaged 17.8 points pet game in the NBA Finals, but was criticized for disappearing in the fourth quarter of games.
