Gould Safe As Bears Cut K Signor, Sign LB Starks
By Adam Hoge-
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. (CBS) -- So much for that so called kicking competition.
The Bears waived backup kicker Austin Signor Friday morning, ending any speculation that Robbie Gould's job could be in jeopardy after he showed some frustration about a lack of a contract extension last week.
When asked earlier this week if there was a kicking competition going on, special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis didn't say no, somewhat fueling that speculation. But Gould and DeCamillis have actually gotten off to a good start together and it is certainly not a surprise that the Bears are keeping one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history.
To replace Signor on the roster, the Bears signed undrafted free agent linebacker Andrew Starks from Princeton. Starks participated in the Bears' rookie mini-camp in May.
