GOP: Tax Freedom Day Comes Too Late In Illinois
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WBBM) -- Illinois Republican leaders gathered Monday for an anniversary they say comes way too late in the state – April 15.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's John Cody reports, U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) explained Tax Freedom day is the day when families have finally covered their tax obligation to the state and federal governments, and have started making money for themselves.

"Tax Freedom Day is also later for Illinois citizens than for citizens of other states," Kirk said. "In Michigan, Tax Freedom Day comes eight days earlier, and in Indiana, it's 10 days earlier."
Kirk was joined by House and Senate Minority leaders Rep. Tom Cross (R-Plainfield) and Sen. Christine Radogno (R-Lemont).
Cross asserted Illinois is overtaxed and overregulated, and requires major pruning and cost-cutting to make it a desirable state in which to live and conduct business.
