GOP State Senator Pushes For Limited Death Penalty
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- If Gov. Pat Quinn signs the legislation to abolish the death penalty at least one state senator says he will try to get a law in place that allows for limited capital punishment.
Republican state senator, and former gubernatorial candidate, Kirk Dillard says he still believes the death penalty is appropriate.

"We have put in place safeguards that I am comfortable with knowing that we will not make a mistake," Dillard said.
The legislation would be aimed at what the state senator considers the worst of the worst cases, meaning mass murderers, and killers of children, law enforcement officials and prison guards. The safeguards he's talking about include DNA, and video taping.
While Gov. Quinn has reportedly said he supports capital punishment, it remains unclear whether he'll sign the legislation.
There are currently 15 inmates on death row.
