GOP Congressmen: No Political Motive For Job Fair
ADDISON, Ill. (CBS) -- Some suburban Republican congressmen staged a job fair Monday, but they were scoffing at political motives in this election year.
As WBBM Newsradio Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports from the Medinah Banquet Hall in Addison, the job fair was spearheaded by Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Ill.) and co-sponsored by fellow Republicans Joe Walsh (R-Ill.), Randy Hultgren (R-Ill.) and Robert Dold (R-Ill.), who was attending a job fair of his own.
Asked if the job fair was more of a political jab at economic woes under President Barack Obama, Walsh said, "Gosh no."
"As Peter (Roskam) said, the biggest problem in this country right now is people are still hurting, and I think they're hurting every bit as much as they were two years ago," Walsh said. "We were just out there for about 5 or 10 minutes, and the thanks on the faces of folks coming in looking for a job is palpable.
Hultgren added that Democrats and Republicans agree that people need jobs.
