Goose Recovering After Attack Near Arlington Heights
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A male goose was recovering nicely at a west suburban wildlife center, after reportedly being beaten by teenagers in the Arlington Heights area.
Wildlife specialist Laura Kirk said the goose was protecting his family, when teens hit him in the head with a board last week on Bonhill Drive, south of Lake Cook Road in unincorporated Arlington Heights.
"He would have fought to the death," Kirk said of the goose.
The family of geese consisted of a mother, father, four goslings, and two eggs, which will now go unhatched.
Bird rescue volunteers took the whole family to the Fox Valley Wildlife Center in Elburn.
"The male had pretty severe neurological damage. He had trouble walking. His head was swollen," she said.
Kirk said the injured bird is doing better, and the whole family could be released back into the wild in the next few weeks.
The teens who attacked the goose were never caught.
