Goodell Prepared To Move Super Bowl Date If Necessary
The NFL and players are still working out a new deal, but they still have a backup plan if parts of the 2011 season get canceled. Part of that plan includes adjusting the date for the Super Bowl.
According to USA Today, Commissioner Roger Goodell told the Cleveland Browns ticket holders the NFL may move the Super Bowl back a week or reduce the two-week break before the game.
"We prefer not to do it, but you always have that option," Goodell said. "Right now, we want to play the schedule as it's laid out."
Goodell also expects the 2011 regular-season schedule to be released in about ten days, USA Today reported.
The regular season is expected to start on the weekend of Sunday, September 11, as long as games don't get canceled due to the lockout.
Currently, Super Bowl XLVI is scheduled for February 5, 2012 in Indianapolis.
