2 teenage brothers shot and killed in Glenview area
CHICAGO (CBS) – Two teenage brothers were shot and killed in the north suburbs Saturday night. One of the victims was just 16 years old and a student at Glenbrook South High School.
Cook County Sheriff's police responded to a report of shots fired in the 10400 block of Michael Todd Terrace in unincorporated Glenview. Officers found two male victims with multiple gunshot wounds.
CBS 2's Marissa Perlman spoke to friends who were there Saturday when the brothers were shot and killed.
One victim was taken to an area hospital, where he died. The second victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The family created a large memorial outside of the apartment complex where the shooting happened. Carlos Guzman, 19, and Jose Guzman, 16, lived in the apartment with their family.
On Saturday, the brothers were with a group of friends and family, eating outside of their home. That's when someone pulled up and opened fire. Jose Guzman died shielding his 3-year-old nephew from gunshots, CBS 2 learned.
One friend who was with the brothers that night said it all happened in seconds.
"I still think about them," said a family friend. "I still think they're here. Everything, I think it's a dream. I will be telling myself they didn't pass away. I've been thinking about what happened, everything that happened. I can't believe that they're gone.
He added he didn't know why the shooting happened or who was responsible.
The two brothers loved soccer. Carlos wanted to be a barber.
"They were the best guys if you ever needed anything," the friend said.
Jose was about to start his junior year at Glenbrook South High School. A note sent out to parents alerting them of the shooting also said his brother was an alum of the school.
"Our administration team have been in contact with the family and are working to support them during this difficult time," Principal Barbara Georges said in the note.
No suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting.
