Glenbard West Football Star Withdraws Commitment To Penn State
GLEN ELLYN, Ill. (CBS) -- Glenbard West football star Tommy Schutt has decided not to go to Penn State, in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports Schutt, a defensive tackle, has withdrawn an earlier commitment to Penn State and will instead go to Ohio State.
Schutt, 6 feet 3 inches tall and 301 pounds, is ranked fifth nationally among defensive tackles and 52nd overall for the Class of 2012, the Sun-Times reports. He visited Ohio State over the weekend, and told the Sun-Times that he was "impressed with everything it was about."
Schutt had committed to Penn State before news of the ongoing Sandusky scandal broke, the Sun-Times reported. The scandal has resulted in the firing of legendary coach Joe Paterno.
Schutt told the Sun-Times he had thought he had it "figured out" that he would go to Penn State, but now, he says it "just wasn't meant to be."
