Police said a cargo van towing a trailer was eastbound on Crystal Lake Avenue when it struck the girl, a student at nearby Hannah Beardsley Middle School.

The extent of the child's injuries were unknown.

The driver of the van, Giles Simonson, 50, of McHenry, was not injured. He was cited for failure to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk, the release said.
