Girl Released After Stabbing, Killing Uncle
CHICAGO (CBS) - The teenage girl who stabbed her uncle to death during an argument Wednesday night has been released without charges.
At 10:10 p.m. Wednesday, the 34-year-old uncle was arguing with his 18-year-old niece at their home in the 1700 block of North Sawyer Avenue in the Logan Square neighborhood, according to Shakespeare District Police Captain Marc Buslik.
The uncle, identified as James Daniels, 34, was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. An autopsy Thursday ruled that Daniels died of a stab wound to the neck and his death was ruled a homicide.
As of 3 a.m. Friday, the woman has been released from police custody without charges, according to a Grand Central Area sergeant. It is not known whether police decided she had acted in self-defense, or if there was another reason she was released.
Before Wednesday, there were no prior reported domestic violence incidents at the Sawyer Avenue address, the detective said.
