Girl, 16, Charged In Deadly Hit-And-Run
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A South Side teen has been charged as an adult for her alleged role in a deadly hit and run that claimed the life of a pedestrian last month.
The 16-year-old girl has been charged as an adult for leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report it, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.
The crash happened on Jan. 25 in the 10400 block of South Ewing Avenue. Angela Alvarado, 44, of the 10000 block of South Avenue L, was killed after being hit by a car about 3:40 p.m., authorities said.
There were two juvenile witnesses to the crash, authorities said.
Police first spoke with the teen on Feb. 1 at her home and asked her about the front damage to her white RAV4. The teen allegedly told her mom something in Spanish and the older woman's reaction was "shocking/disturbing," according to the police report.
The mother then told police: "She was the driver," the report said. The teen was released without being charged, but turned herself in with an attorney on Friday.
The teen allegedly made admissions to being involved in the crash to two people.
The teen was released following her bond hearing Saturday but must remain on electronic monitoring while she awaits trial.
