CHICAGO (CBS) – A 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted this morning in the Park Manor neighborhood on Chicago's South Side.
The girl was attacked in an alley near 71st and King Drive around 11:30 a.m., CBS 2's Dana Kozlov reports. She told police a man approached her on a bicycle before he pushed her onto the ground and assaulted her before riding off.
The suspect was described as a 20- to 40-year-old black man, standing 5'7", with short dreadlocks, and tattoos on his neck and forearms. He was wearing a white T-shirt, dark jeans, and a blue Atlanta Braves cap; and was riding an adult-sized mountain bike when he approached the girl.
Police said the victim ran into Kingfish Seafood after she was raped.
"She just told me that he rode on a bike, he grabbed her, pushed her down, raped her, and then she ran off," Kingfish owner Jennifer McKay said.
Staff and customers called police, and immediately began searching for the suspect.
"We ran to try to catch the guy," Ace Jiggets said. "They say he was in Sunny Subs, so we ran into Sunny Subs. He wasn't there."
McKay said the girl was not crying when she came in and sat down, but seemed to be hyperventilating.
"She's like, 'I don't want to go outside, do you have a car?' I said, 'I'm not taking you nowhere, you're going to sit here until the police come, and you need to go to the hospital."
The girl was taken to the University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital for treatment.
Area Central Detectives were investigating. Anyone with information about the attack should call detectives at 312-747-8380.
