Gholston Among 5 Players Cut By Bears
(CBS) Vernon Gholston was among five players waived by the Bears Monday.
The 6-3, 262 pound defensive end was drafted sixth overall by the New York Jets in 2008 but didn't record a sack in his first three NFL seasons. The Bears signed him hoping they could get something out of the former Ohio State star, but he did very little in three preseason games.
Other players waived include:
LB Tanner Antle
C J.C. Brignone
DT Tank Tyler
QB Trevor Vittatoe
Running back Chester Taylor was reportedly told Monday that he will be released too, but no official announcement has been made. It's possible the team is trying to trade him. He was still listed as the No. 2 running back on the team's official depth chart that was released Monday.
The Bears roster is now down to 80 players. They have to get it to 53 players by Saturday.
