Ryan Asks For 2nd Furlough; Wife Refusing Pain Meds
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- An attorney for former Gov. George Ryan said they have asked federal officials to grant him another furlough to see his terminally ill wife in the hospital. Meantime, his wife, Lura Lynn, is refusing pain medication as she is treated for lung cancer.
WBBM Newsradio 780's Steve Miller reports that Ryan's attorney Andrea Lyon said the former governor asked personally for a second temporary furlough to visit Lura Lynn in a Kankakee hospital, but was denied.
So now lawyers are asking the U.S. Bureau of Prisons to let him out of prison overnight to visit Lura Lynn's bedside.

"I don't know if it's going to make any difference," Lyon said, "but we're trying."
Ryan was granted a two-hour visit with his wife earlier this month.
"We're just hoping something will happen before it's too late," Lyon said. "She's trying to hang on and won't take pain meds because she doesn't want to be out of it," says Lyon.
Lura Lynn Ryan has lung cancer and, according to her husband's lawyers, her doctors have said she doesn't have long to live.
