Gas Station Attendant Shot During Carjacking Attempt
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police are looking for two suspects who shot a gas station attendant during an attempted carjacking on the Dan Ryan Expressway.
Police say the 36-year-old employee had just gotten off work at the Citgo station at 94th and State streets, and was sitting in his car behind the station around 11:45 p.m. Monday when the suspects approached him.
A man stormed into the victim's car through passenger side door and ordered the victim to get out. But the victim resisted, and then began fighting with the carjacker outside the car.
The carjacker then handed a gun to a woman who was with him and ordered her to shoot the victim, police said.
The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was able to make it to Roseland Community Hospital, Alfaro said. Emergency crews later transferred him to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Both suspects ran without taking the vehicle and are not in police custody early Tuesday, police said.
The man shot remained in serious condition early Tuesday.
