Now, prices are coming down. ChicagoGasPrices.com finds the current Chicago average around $4.26 – still high compared to the national average of $3.89 – but at least moving in the right direction for consumers.
Some suburban stations are even charging below $4.
The lowest price seen on ChicagoGasPrices.com Monday morning was $3.94 at the Sam's Clubs on Cicero Avenue near Southwick Drive in Matteson, and at 7430 Woodward Ave. in Woodridge.
The highest was the BP station at 43rd and State streets, where the price was $4.83.
Among the reasons for the drop are an ease in geopolitical tensions, resulting in a drop in crude oil prices.
