Gas Prices Dropping Across Chicago Area
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Gas prices are dropping in the Chicago area and surrounding counties, but prices are still higher than they were at this time a year ago.
AAA Chicago reported Tuesday that the average price for gasoline in Illinois in October was $3.49 per gallon, a drop of 28 cents compared with September.
But gas prices are still 58 cents higher than they were in October 2010, AAA said.
Prices were down 30 cents in October compared with September in northern Indiana, for an average of $3.34. But that figure is also up 58 cents from October of last year.
As of Tuesday morning, the average price per gallon in the city of Chicago was $3.56, compared with $3.58 a month ago.
Also, AAA says:
— In suburban Cook County, self-serve regular averages $3.64, down 32 cents from last month and up 59 cents from last year.
— In DuPage County, self-serve regular unleaded averages $3.50, down 33 cents from September and up 56 cents from last year.
— In Lake County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded averages $3.47, down 33 cents from last month and up 59 cents from last year.
— In Lake County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded averages $3.34, down 31 cents from September and up 56 cents from a year ago.
— In Porter County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded averages $3.33, down 30 cents in a month and up 57 cents from last year.
ChicagoGasPrices.com reported the lowest price per gallon in the area was at the Sam's Club at 7430 Woodward Ave. in Woodridge, where gas was selling for $3.36. Ten gas station in Chicago and the suburbs were tied for the highest price, at $3.99.
