Gas Prices, Airfares Down For Memorial Day Travel Weekend
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The summer travel season kicks off this holiday weekend.
As WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports, AAA says 1.8 million people will travel in Illinois for the Memorial Day holiday – a nearly 1 percent increase over last year.
Of those, the vast majority will drive.
The number of Illinois travelers going by air will be down 6 percent from last year, even though AAA says airfares are down 7 percent.
Meanwhile, gas prices appear to be coming down from their highs this spring. ChicagoGasPrices.com finds an average of $4.13 per gallon in the Chicago area.
