Gas Main Work In Mundelein To Create 50-Foot Flame
MUNDELEIN, Ill. (CBS) -- A huge flame will shoot as high as 50 feet into the air Tuesday morning in the far north suburbs.
As WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports, North Shore Gas crews will be working on a new gas main in Mundelein and will need to burn off natural gas through a 50-foot-high flare pipe around 4 a.m. Tuesday.
That could produce a flame 40 to 50 feet above the pipe.

The work will take place on a new gas main south of Allanson Road, north of Route 60 and west of Butterfield Road.
"It might look like, you know, huge, 'Oh my God, it's a big fire,' ... yes, it's a big flame, but it's a controlled burn," said North Shore Gas spokeswoman Bonnie Johnson.
The controlled burn should last from two to three hours and Johnson said there will be no danger to the public.
Crews might need to burn the gas flare again later on Tuesday or on Wednesday morning, depending on how long it takes to complete work on the new gas main.
